Systemic Yeast Infection

When you hear the term “yeast infection”, it’s likely that what comes to mind is an infection that is not very serious.  While this is true in most cases, when dealing with systemic yeast infection, the condition can become quite serious.

Unlike vaginal yeast infections or thrush (oral yeast infections), systemic yeast infections occur in the tissues of the body and can become serious to the point where the bloodstream can be compromised.

Yeast exists in the body.  This is normal, and the “good” bacteria that also exist in the body keep the yeast under control and, thus, prevent infection.  When the bacteria to yeast ratio are upset, however, the conditions become prime for a systemic yeast infection.

One common cause is the use of antibiotics.  Sometimes, these antibiotics will kill so many of the “good” bacteria, that there are not enough left to prevent a yeast infection.  Other causes include use of certain birth control pills, steroids and even high stress levels can all contribute to the onset of a systemic yeast infection.

Symptoms can include fatigue, diarrhea, muscle pain, headaches, depression, confusion, urinary tract infection, rashes or hives, constipation and many others.  Of course, all of these symptoms can be the result of a number of medical conditions.  For this reason, you should not try to self-diagnose a systemic yeast infection.

Your doctor can quickly confirm such a diagnosis with a simple test.  This will ensure proper treatment for your systemic yeast infection and will also ensure that you are not missing another medical condition that could be causing your symptoms.

While there are many home remedies to be found on the internet, and some say that even a simple change in diet can cure your infection, it is still a good idea to seek the help of a doctor, simply because of the complications that are possible when dealing with such an infection.

While some of the home remedies may have merit, it’s important to cover all of your bases when dealing with an infection that could, potentially affect your respiratory system and your blood stream.

Doctors will typically prescribe a long regimen of medication.  This could be a regimen lasting six months or even longer.   There is also likely to be restrictions placed on the diet. These could include a reduction in the number or carbohydrates as well as suggesting that you avoid alcohol, vinegar, honey and a host of other foods that are thought to aggravate the problem.

If you have been suffering with any of the above symptoms and have not been able to figure out why, you may want to visit your doctor and ask him to test for a systemic yeast infection.  While the condition can be serious, it is usually able to be treated fairly easily.

Some women have suffered for years with an undiagnosed systemic yeast infection.  After undergoing proper treatment, many say that they feel like they have a brand new life, free from pain, fatigue and the other symptoms associated with the problem.

Don’t wait another day.  If you think you may have a systemic yeast infection, visit your doctor right away.
