Options for a Cure for Candida
Candida albicans is the most common cause of yeast infections including thrush, male yeast infection and vaginal yeast infections. While the Candida is always present in the body, an infection occurs when the bodies bacteria is unable to control the Candida. This could be as a result of another infection or due to diabetes, the use of antibiotics or the use of some birth control medications.
Thrush
Thrush is an oral yeast infection. It can be present in the throat or on the tongue. In mild cases, you may need only to use a mouth rinse with antifungal properties. If, however, this treatment does not work, you may need to try a more aggressive cure for Candida such as a prescription antifungal medication.
You should see your doctor if you’re not certain of the diagnosis or if the over the counter treatment does not work within a few days.
If you are pregnant or have other health concerns, you should see your doctor right away if you suspect thrush.
Vaginal Yeast Infection
This is the most common type of yeast infection of which up to 90% of all cases are caused by Candida bacteria. Cures for this type of yeast infection range from home remedies to over the counter medication. In severe cases, you may need to see your doctor for a cure for Candida that includes prescription medication.
Home remedies include the application of yogurt or vinegar to the affected areas 2-3 times a day. Over the counter medications, once only available by prescription, are very effective as cures for Candida. If you do need a prescription cure, it may include the use of boric acid or an antifungal medication.
Just as important as curing the infection is finding relief from the symptoms. Sitz baths, the use of anti-itch creams such as Vagisil and the application of a cool compress to the affected areas can all provide some relief from the burning and itching.
Male Yeast Infection
Penile yeast infections cause much of the same discomfort and vaginal yeast infections. They can also be treated similar fashion. Some men find the application of the home remedies mentioned above, including yogurt and vinegar, to be helpful. Other men use the over the counter medications, such as Monistat. While this product is primarily marketed to women, that is only because women suffer with far more yeast infections than men. However, the product is equally effective at treating penile yeast infections.
Finding a cure for Candida that works for you may take some trial and error. Not all cures will work for everybody. You may want to experiment with home remedies and over the counter options until you find what works best for you.
It’s a good idea to make notes of the cure that help you as many people experience a recurrence once they have had one yeast infection.
Of course, if none of the treatments you can do yourself work, you’ll need to see your doctor for a cure for Candida that will help with very stubborn cases.
