You Won’t Have to Look Far to Find a Natural Cure for Yeast Infection

When looking for a natural cure for a yeast infection, many will not have to look any further than their own kitchen.  Some of the most tried and true natural cures are items that many people likely have on hand.

Of course, you should never attempt to self-treat a yeast infection unless you are absolutely certain that is what you have.  Many people think they have a yeast infection when, in fact, they have another type of infection that requires a doctor’s care.  If you have never been diagnosed with a yeast infection in the past you should visit your doctor.

If you are sure that you are dealing with a yeast infection, and choose to try a natural remedy rather than one of the available over the counter medications, you can start by looking in your kitchen.

Yogurt

This natural cure for yeast infection is one that many women have tried, and many claim success.  A container of plain yogurt and some tampons are all you’ll need.  Put some yogurt on the tampon and insert.  Leave it in place for about an hour.  Do this 2-3 times a day.

As a bonus, the cool yogurt provides soothing relief to the itching caused by the yeast infection.  Some women even place the yogurt dipped tampons in the freezer so that the cooling sensation will be more long lasting.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is another popular nature cure for yeast infections.  The key is not that it is apple cider vinegar so much as that it needs to be unpasteurized vinegar.  Most of the time, the apple cider vinegar found in the store will be unpasteurized.

Using the vinegar as a douche is the most common method of use.  You’ll want a ratio of about 3 tablespoons of vinegar to about 2 quarts of warm water. Others prefer to make a sitz bath with the vinegar.   Prepare the sitz bath with water at whatever temperature is most comfortable for you.  Then add 2-3 cups of vinegar.

Garlic

Garlic works best as a natural cure for yeast infections when the infection is still in the early stages.  Place a clove of fresh garlic in piece of cheesecloth and insert into the vagina.  Leave it for a few hours and then remove. Be sure that there is a string on the cheesecloth so that removal will be easy.

If inserting the clove of uncut garlic does not seem to help, you can try cutting the garlic before inserting, which will cause the garlic to be more potent.

As is the case with most natural remedies, scientific evidence that these natural cures for yeast infections are effective is slim and mostly anecdotal.  That being said, most home remedies have at least some basis in fact, so it’s worth giving one of these methods a try before using the more expensive over the counter medications.
