Four Home Cure Yeast Infection Tips

Yeast infections can happen to men or women and can occur in various parts of the body.  The most common place for women to develop a yeast infection is in the vaginal area.   There are some tried and true methods for home cures for yeast infections, but be sure of one thing first: that you actually have a yeast infection.

Many women who think they have a yeast infection actually have another type of infection, such as once caused by a sexually transmitted disease. You should not self diagnose a yeast infection if you have never had one before or if you are pregnant.  Once you are certain of the diagnosis, here are four home cure yeast infection tips to try.

Yogurt

This may sound silly to someone who has never tried this home cure yeast infection remedy, but many women swear by it.  The yogurt contains bacteria that help to kill the yeast.   Use a tampon or a syringe –minus the needle of course – to insert the yogurt into the vagina. Some women like to use cold yogurt because they say it helps to relieve the intense burning caused by the yeast infection.

Garlic

Garlic gets credit for providing an abundance of health benefits and it also makes the list of home cure yeast infection tricks.  Some women use cheesecloth or a tampon to insert fresh crushed garlic into the vagina.  Leave the garlic in place for at least an hour.  Be sure there is a string on the cloth or tampon so you will easily be able to remove it.

Cranberry Juice

It is commonly known that cranberry juice is helpful in treating urinary tract infections, but some women claim to have had success treating yeast infections as well.  Drink a few glasses of unsweetened cranberry juice each day.  There are also cranberry extract pills available at health food stores.

Over the Counter Medications

Ten years ago, it wasn’t possible to buy over the counter medicines to treat yeast infections.  Now, these medicines make a wonderful addition to the home cure yeast infection arsenal.  These medications are of the same strength that once required a prescription from your doctor and work quickly and effectively.

While waiting for your home cure yeast infection remedies to work, you will want to find some relief from the symptoms of the yeast infection.  Be sure to wash the affected area at least once a day and dry thoroughly.  Keep damp washcloths in the freezer and use them as a cold compress when the burning gets to be too much to take.

As mentioned above, these home cures should only be used if you are certain that you are dealing with a yeast infection.  Failing to treat other types of infections can seriously compromise your health, so be sure to see a doctor if you have any doubt.

These home cure yeast infection tips may not work for every woman, but they are worth a try before visiting the doctor for more aggressive treatments, such as boric acid.  Many women have used these tips with great success, so try one the next time a yeast infection strikes.
