Cures for Vaginitis

Vaginitis is not a condition in and of itself.  Instead, it is a term used by doctors to describe a variety of medical conditions including yeast infections, viruses, certain sexually transmitted diseases, adverse reaction to creams or lotions or even a condition caused by clothing being too tight.

Put simply, vaginitis includes any condition that causes infection and/or swelling of the vagina.  Cures for vaginitis are going to vary greatly depending on the cause for the condition.  Obviously, if the cause is something as simple as ill-fitting clothing or a negative reaction to a product, the cure for vaginitis would be to discontinue use of the offending product or wear clothes that fit properly.

If, however, the cause is an infection, the cures for vaginitis may be a bit more involved.

Symptoms of vaginitis due to an infection could include itching or burning of the vaginal area, pain during sex, unusual discharge or discharge with an odor.  Below are some of the most common types of vaginitis.

Yeast Infection (Candidiasis)

Yeast infections are very common and once a woman has been diagnosed with one, she can often tell when the infection has recurred.   In this case, cures for vaginitis may very well include some effective remedies that do not require a visit to the doctor.  From homeopathic cures, such as the application of yogurt to the affected area to over the counter creams, cures for vaginitis of this type are abundant.

Bacterial Vaginosis

This is the most common of all vaginal infections.  The infection is usually quite mild and often no treatment is needed.  If the infection is persistent, the cure for vaginitis of this type requires a round of antibiotics prescribed by a doctor.

Chlamydia Vaginitis

This type of vaginitis is a sexually transmitted disease.  If left untreated it can cause serious complications including the development of pelvic inflammatory disease and even infertility.  Treatment is a round of antibiotics and, in severe cases, hospitalization may be required.

Trichomoniasis Vaginitis

This is a very common sexually transmitted disease.  Cures for this type of vaginitis include a round of antibiotics.  Failing to treat the infection can lead to serious problems with future pregnancies.

As mentioned above, cures for vaginitis depend entirely on the type of vaginitis being treated.  One serious mistake that many women make is failing to seek the advice of a doctor when experiencing symptoms.

While self-diagnosing a yeast infection is possible for women who have been diagnosed with one BY A DOCTOR in the past, most other infections will require a trip to the doctor.

The only way to correctly diagnose some forms of vaginitis is through laboratory tests.  Cures for vaginitis, including knowing which antibiotic to prescribe, will depend on the specific type of infection. Failing to treat certain infections in a timely manner can be very dangerous and can lead to serious complications in the future, particularly when it comes to having children.

Some women prefer homeopathic cures, and while some of those treatments may have merit, many types of vaginitis REQUIRES antibiotics that can only be prescribed by a physician.

If experiencing unusual discharge, or any other symptoms, it is always a good idea to pay a visit to your doctor.  Cures for vaginitis are almost always very simple if the problem is caught early.
