Three Ways to Cure Candidiasis

Candidiasis is an infection caused by fungus or yeast.  More commonly referred to as “yeast infections”, candidiasis can affect men and women and can occur in various parts of the body including the mouth, breasts and, most commonly, the vagina.  To cure Candidiasis, it is important to first be certain that is what you have.

While vaginal yeast infections are common, and many women get them over and over, it is important to verify your self-diagnosis with a visit to your doctor.  This is especially true if it is your first yeast infection.

Once sure of the diagnosis, it is OK to try some home remedies to cure Candidiasis in the vaginal area.  Other types, such as in the mouth (often known as thrush) or on other parts of the body require a trip to the doctor.

If dealing with vaginal symptoms, here are three ways you can try to cure Candidiasis.

Home/Natural Remedies

Women swear by some of the natural remedies in this section. Of course, every woman is different and what works wonderfully for one, might do nothing for another.  Still, these natural remedies were not plucked from thin air, and there are good reasons why they could work.

Generally, the home remedies will call for the placement of a common household item, such as plain yogurt, unpasteurized vinegar or fresh garlic into the vagina.

If using yogurt, place the yogurt on a tampon and insert.   For vinegar, you should be working with a solution of 2 quarts of water to 2-3 tablespoons of vinegar.  Use the solution as a douche or in a sitz bath. Garlic should be placed in a cheesecloth. Be sure that you will easily be able to remove the cheesecloth and the garlic after the treatment.

Over the Counter Medications

Over the counter medications, such as Mycelex of Femstat, can be used as a fast and effective way to cure Candidiasis.  In addition to the cream that will be inserted into the vagina to cure the infection, many also come with another cream for use on the external portion of the vagina.  This cream, while not contributing to the cure, does provide fast relief for some of the symptoms, such as itching and burning.

Prescription Medications

While attempting to cure Candidiasis at home is more common these days then seeking the help of a physician, some yeast infections are stubborn and will not go away without medicines only available with a prescription.   As mentioned above, a visit to your doctor is necessary when dealing with Candidiasis in the mouth or body part other than the vagina.

In those cases, the medication will usually consist of oral medications or creams applied directly to the affected area.  Those same treatments may be prescribed to cure Candidiasis in the vaginal area that is not responding to other treatments.
